Nonlocal Problems with Neumann Boundary Conditions

چکیده
We introduce a new Neumann problem for the fractional Laplacian arising from a simple probabilistic consideration, and we discuss the basic properties of this model. We can consider both elliptic and parabolic equations in any domain. In addition, we formulate problems with nonhomogeneous Neumann conditions, and also with mixed Dirichlet and Neumann conditions, all of them having a clear probabilistic interpretation. We prove that solutions to the fractional heat equation with homogeneous Neumann conditions have the following natural properties: conservation of mass inside Ω, decreasing energy, and convergence to a constant as t → ∞. Moreover, for the elliptic case we give the variational formulation of the problem, and establish existence of solutions. We also study the limit properties and the boundary behavior induced by this nonlocal Neumann condition. For concreteness, one may think that our nonlocal analogue of the classical Neumann condition ∂νu = 0 on ∂Ω consists in the nonlocal prescription ∫ Ω u(x)− u(y) |x− y|n+2s dy = 0 for x ∈ R n \ Ω.

How to Approximate the Heat Equation with Neumann Boundary Conditions by Nonlocal Diffusion Problems
We present a model for nonlocal diffusion with Neumann boundary conditions in a bounded smooth domain prescribing the flux through the boundary. We study the limit of this family of nonlocal diffusion operators when a rescaling parameter related to the kernel of the nonlocal operator goes to zero. We prove that the solutions of this family of problems converge to a solution of the heat equation...
متن کاملA Collocation Method with Modified Equilibrium on Line Method for Imposition of Neumann and Robin Boundary Conditions in Acoustics (TECHNICAL NOTE)
A collocation method with the modified equilibrium on line method (ELM) forimposition of Neumann and Robin boundary conditions is presented for solving the two-dimensionalacoustical problems. In the modified ELM, the governing equations are integrated over the lines onthe Neumann (Robin) boundary instead of the Neumann (Robin) boundary condition equations. Inother words, integration domains are...
متن کاملOn Neumann and oblique derivatives boundary conditions for nonlocal elliptic equations
Inspired by the penalization of the domain approach of Lions & Sznitman, we give a sense to Neumann and oblique derivatives boundary value problems for nonlocal, possibly degenerate elliptic equations. Two different cases are considered: (i) homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in convex, possibly non-smooth and unbounded domains, and (ii) general oblique derivatives boundary conditions in s...
متن کاملINFINITELY MANY SOLUTIONS FOR A CLASS OF P-BIHARMONIC PROBLEMS WITH NEUMANN BOUNDARY CONDITIONS
The existence of infinitely many solutions is established for a class of nonlinear functionals involving the p-biharmonic operator with nonhomoge- neous Neumann boundary conditions. Using a recent critical-point theorem for nonsmooth functionals and under appropriate behavior of the nonlinear term and nonhomogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, we obtain the result.
متن کاملClassical , Nonlocal , and Fractional Diffusion Equations on Bounded Domains
The purpose of this paper is to compare the solutions of one-dimensional boundary value problems corresponding to classical, fractional and nonlocal diffusion on bounded domains. The latter two diffusions are viable alternatives for anomalous diffusion, when Fick’s first law is an inaccurate model. In the case of nonlocal diffusion, a generalization of Fick’s first law in terms of a nonlocal fl...
